Alternative Ways to Use Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular aromas on the market today. And it’s easy to understand why. It’s defined by a flowery, lightly sweet scent that reminds us of spring. It may even be your favorite. You may diffuse it around the home, spray it on fabrics, and you may even use it topically by mixing it into your favorite skincare products. But what if you could get even more out of this amazing essential oil? Well, you can! There are plenty of ways to incorporate lavender essential oil into your day—some that you might not even expect. If you want your day to have more of that refreshing, spring, floral scent, give these tips a try!

Use Lavender Essential Oil to Freshen Your Laundry
You may already spray a lavender and water mix over your laundry to
give it a boost of freshness. But you can also give your laundry an even
greater boost of freshness right in the dryer. It’s all about those
dryer sheets (or dryer balls). Did you know you can create your own
dryer sheet scents? It’s easy just to grab what’s on the shelf at the
store, but you can buy unscented dryer sheets and add your own scents.
This is where the lavender essential oil comes in. To add aroma, you can
add a drop of lavender oil on the sheet or spritz each sheet with the
lavender and water mix. For use with wool dryer balls, the same idea
applies. Simply add one or two drops of lavender oil, allow to absorb,
then use!
You can also use lavender essential oil mixed with
castile soap, borax, and washing soda to create your own DIY detergent.
Your laundry will smell amazing the second you remove it from the dryer.
Make Lavender Essential Oil a Part of Your Skin Soothing Regimen
Lavender oil is ideal for soothing skin thanks to its usefulness in
addressing minor skin irritations. Just keep in mind that minor is the
keyword here. It’s the type of occasional skin irritation you might see
on an average day. It might be in the form of a little redness or what
you might call grumpy skin. So, how does lavender oil help? In these
instances, dabbing on a touch of lavender oil with a cotton ball or swab
may be helpful. It may be able to help reduce the sensation of
irritation and help soothe the skin.
Along these same lines,
you can use lavender oil preemptively. If you know you might experience
skin irritation, dab a blend of lavender oil and a carrier oil (like
jojoba or coconut oil) and apply it to the trouble spot. It may help you
avoid irritation later in the day. Of course, even if skin trouble
isn’t on the horizon, simply applying the lavender oil and carrier oil
blend may just be a nice, aromatic treat!
Add Lavender Essential Oil to Your Facial Steam
While you can add lavender essential oil to a bath and enjoy it that
way, you can also scale that down. Here’s how: Add a few drops to a
basin of hot water. Just after simmering the water, add three to six
drops of lavender oil to the water, then position your face over the
basin with a towel draped over your head to contain the steam. Deeply
breathe in the aromatic steam. You can also use this to create a
relaxing atmosphere after a long day. Lavender oil is a great place to
start, but you can also use any calming essential oil blend
featuring lavender oil to encourage a more relaxing atmosphere. Blends
with lavender oil and other light and woody scents, like cananga and
Buddha wood oils, are great for creating a soothing atmosphere.
